What Consumers Should Know About Lemon RV

Having a home on wheels for traveling and enjoying the RV lifestyle is a dream for many consumers. But those who made major investments in recreational vehicles may have their dreams ruined if their motor homes have multiple problems while traveling, are constantly breaking down on the road or continuously taken to the dealer`s place for one repair after another.

Luckily, the consumers soured on the new RV experience are protected under the California Lemon Law which is designed to give consumers remedies if their vehicles (including RVs) spend more time at the repair shop rather than on the road. If the authorized dealer does not eliminate vehicle problems within a reasonable number of attempts or within a certain period of time the California Lemon Law is applied. The law covers the following motorized and towable recreational vehicles

  • Class A motorhomes
  • Class B motorhomes
  • Class C motorhomes
  • Travel Trailers
  • Fifth-Wheel Trailers
  • Toy Haulers
  • Truck Campers

The California Lemon Law says that the RVs defect should be eliminated within a reasonable amount of attempts. The vehicle owner is obliged to give the manufacturer or its authorized dealer access to the defective for repair attempts. Depending on the character of a defect, the number of attempts may be limited to 1 or 2 or extended to 6-7. The law states that in some cases cumulative minor problems that essentially augment the overall defect can also be covered.

Common RV defects include

  • Water leaking
  • Chassis defects
  • Frame problems
  • Electrical system defects
  • Living quarters defects

What Should I do With My Lemon RV?

If you are asking this question it means that the efforts you spent trying to resolve your RV`s problems have failed. So your next step is to collect all documents, copies of any letters you wrote or received from manufacturer or dealer and all repair receipts and contact an experienced California Lemon Law attorney. Providing the paperwork as proof of your attempts to have the defects eliminated will hold weight with the court.

Law Offices of Hovanes Margarian offers free consultations to consumers stuck with their lemon car including recreational vehicles. We will review your case to determine how we can assist you in getting a refund.
